Fortify Homes from Pornography

Families may be uncertain how to fortify their homes against the evils of pornography and the internet. The following guidelines are to assist parents in protecting their internet access through filters.   Because each household is unique, recommendations have been broken into three steps in hopes each family can find an approach that meets their needs.

Tablets & Cell Phones
  • IMPORTANT:  Cell Phones are the method most frequently used to access pornography today.  Apple (iOS) phones have the most developed and complete options to allow parents to securely protect your children. 
  • Use Parental Protections. Most phones have parental protections that can be programmed into the phone. This includes blocking of downloading new apps without a password (known only to parents).
  • Safe Place to Sleep.  Have all cell phones & tablets "sleep" in parent's bedroom, at a set time, say 10pm.
  • Monitor Regularly.  Parents should monitor phone use and apps on a regular basis.
Television
  • Ratings & Adult Channels. Use your cable or satellite parental controls to set the rating level that you feel most appropriate. Block channels with adult material so that the titles will never be seen.
  • Passwords.  Only known to parents.
